JOB CORPS

Job Corps Job Corps is a no-cost education and vocational training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 get a better job, make more money, and take control of their lives. At Job Corps, students enroll to learn a trade, earn a high school diploma or GED and get help finding a good job. When you join the program, you will be paid a monthly allowance; the longer you stay with the program, the more your allowance will be. Job Corps provides career counseling and transition support to its students for up to 12 months after they graduate from the program.
Eligibility
To enroll in Job Corps, students must meet the following requirements:
  • Be 16 through 24;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident;
  • Meet income requirements; and,
  • Be ready, willing, and able to participate fully in an educational environment.

    WIA (Workforce Investment Act) Program

    Provides individual assistance to those seeking help in finding new careers, returning to school for additional training, or needing supportive services during a career change. WIA representatives will provide personal assistance in utilizing the Wisconsin Job Center’s on-site resources. Provide leads and other help with employment search, and financial assistance with educational costs for those who qualify. You can contact the WIA Older Youth Specialist at: 920-448-7204.

    1. Proof of Age (Birth or baptismal certificate, Wisconsin ID card or Wisconsin driver's license)
    2. Employer's written intent to hire, including job duties to be performed and the hours and time of day to be worked
    3. Parent/guardian written consent
    4. Social Security card
    5. Payment of $5 permit fee, to be reimbursed to the minor no later than the minor's first paycheck.

    Wisconsin's Worknet Wisconsin's link to variety of information and resources for young people exploring the labor market. Includes resources on variety of youth focused workforce agencies, programs, and services. Includes informaton on work permits, hours of work, minimum wage, etc.

    Youth Apprenticeship is part of a statewide school-to-work initiative. It is designed for high school students who want to experience hands on learning at the worksite in conjunction with classroom instruction.
